Committee overview/objective
The CGMA Examination Board acts as the steward of the standards and integrity of CIMA's examination portfolio. The Board's primary role is to provide independent assurance that the assessment framework remains robust, credible, and fit for purpose, while maintaining comparability of standards over time. By overseeing the effectiveness of governance, quality assurance, and risk management arrangements, the Board safeguards stakeholder confidence in the qualification and supports its continued relevance and standing as a leading global professional credential. The Board also provides independent assurance that matters relating to complaints, appeals, and misconduct are addressed through effective and appropriate frameworks that uphold fairness, consistency, and trust in learner assessment outcomes.
Key areas of oversight include:
Meeting format
The committee operates on a hybrid basis, with a blend of virtual meetings and occasional in‑person sessions. Results ratification activity takes place quarterly through a series of three one-hour meetings. In addition, two extended three-hour meetings are held each year to support strategic oversight and wider quality assurance discussions.
Experience required
We welcome applications from individuals who bring strong experience across accounting, academia, professional qualifications, or other sectors where quality, standards, and public confidence are paramount. The CGMA Examination Board brings together both lay and non-lay members, and we actively value the breadth of perspective this diversity provides.
Members should demonstrate sound judgement, provide constructive and considered challenge, and offer meaningful insight drawn from experience in governance, audit, risk, quality assurance, or assessment. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who are passionate about maintaining the highest standards in assessment and who have a genuine interest in academia, policy, data, and the evolving professional and regulatory landscape.
