Your quick guide to completing the CIMA Practical Experience Requirements application
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start my PER application? Access the PER application via your exam dashboard.
Do I need to split my time across all of the functions/achievements set out in the assessment? Is there a minimum time to spend on each? The only time requirement is to demonstrate a minimum of three years' relevant practical experience. There is no requirement to allocate a specific amount of time to individual functions, achievements, skills or behaviours.
How long should my application be? For each STAR template, aim for 500-750 words for both the Core Work Activities and Skills & Behaviours sections. For each role and organisation in your employment history, aim for 250-300 words.
Will I be penalised if I go over the word count? The recommended word count is intended to help provide the appropriate level of detail while remaining focused on the STAR framework requirements. A variation of up to 10% is acceptable.
How many STAR templates do I need to complete? You must complete eight STAR templates in total: three Core Work Activities and five Skills & Behaviours.
Are there any example answers/responses? Yes. Please refer to the Library section of the Communities page for example responses and guidance materials.
Can I submit my application in a language other than English? No. All PER applications must be submitted in English.
When inputting my work address, should I enter my office address or the company's head office address? The address entered on your application should be the address of your usual place of work.
