"There's a saying: if you're going to do something, do it properly.

We're delighted to welcome you to the PER Community.

Our team could post content once a day, twice a day, twice a week, or five days a week. We could also share content we think is useful - but that may not always be what you actually want/need.

To help us build a community that truly adds value, please take a moment to let us know:

    • what type of content you'd like to see (e.g. assessors feedback on reasons why application get deferred, examples of extracts from successful applications, clear examples of what we mean/look for within the PER criteria etc)
    • how often you'd like us to post each week, and
    • ultimately, why you've joined this community (e.g. to learn from each other, to have direct access to the membership team for support, to have all of the information you need in front of you instead of having to spend hours navigating through our website etc)

Your response can be as short or as detailed as you like - every bit of feedback helps us get this right."

I always like being the first to start off a conversation.   Yes it would be really helpful to be able to see comments from the assessors.  This will help me know im on the right path for my PER and i think twice a week posts for me, prefer evenings if thats ok?  Thank you for arranging this community space

Hello, for me posts twice a week would be best. I have joined mainly to get some view on how the application should and should not look like, so when I will start working on it I would already have some ideas on what to include and in what way. Assessors feedback and some guidelines on what are you looking for within each criteria would be really helpful. Thank you!

Thanks Paulina.  We will make sure on a weekly basis to include notes from the membership assessors based on what they are looking forward.  Enjoy the rest of your day :)

    Hi Harry,

I'm hoping to see pointers on the kind of work experience that would be seen as sufficient for PER. I recall during one of the meetings something along the lines of "we want to see that you have been sufficiently professionally challenged."

Perhaps a practical approach would be pre-screening our PER drafts with an assessor before spending time articulating and polishing the submission. i.e. if an assessor can tell us our line of thinking is either not relevant or not suitably challenging, we can spend more time considering another approach to that area rather than perfecting a draft that wouldn't have passed anyway.

    Hi Conor.

Its an interesting question you ask.   The assessors want to approve as many students as possible so they are on your side.

In theory, you could have a pre-screening and if you are on the right or wrong track, the assessors could let you know.  But then again if you submit your experience and have it reviewed by an assessor and it needs more work on, they will give you the same guidance but the positive will be that as your application would then be treated as a re-submission, it will get seen to immediately rather than you having to wait in a queue.

    Hoping this helps?

    Harry

    Hi Harry,

For me the hardest part was starting; the actual sitting down and reading through everything, knowing where to find everything I needed to guide me, understanding what was expected for the PER and then brain storming example pieces of my work and how they would fit with the different skills, behaviors and core activities. I did use the guidance notes, and I sat with my manager to help me brain storm work examples. I found this part of the process quite difficult....initially my mind was just a blank. Examples of how others have navigated this part of the process would be helpful.

Once I'd got my head around that and decided which pieces of work to use as examples, the writing was fairly straight forward. (Lack of time is a different issue)  I found the STAR examples really helpful with this process. It would be good to see more STAR examples, maybe for each of the different categories or ideas for example pieces of work and where they fit. Not everyone works in the private sector so some examples for Not-For-Profits/NHS/Government would also be really helpful.

I found the navigation of the web site quite clunky initially, I also joined a FB group for PER where individuals who have had difficulties navigating the process have posted to help others navigate it. I'd like to see more details/guidance notes on what should happen and when especially after submitting a PER. A lot of individuals seem to get confused and stuck once they've submitted their PER with some commenting that weeks go by and certain flags appear on their submissions etc... and don't know who to go to initially, so having direct access to the membership team is essential through this process.

I think posting twice a week is a good level, any more than that and I think it would be too much for individuals to find time to read the information/keep up. Especially if you're working full time and have a family at home. (As I do)

I joined, like others have commented, to find examples of work and also which category they've fitted it into and a better understanding of what to do and not to do, to help me with mine. Like minded individuals for support and to ask the 'idiot' questions when i get stuck. I've spotted the video on the use of AI, which I also think is a key piece of information for individuals. (About to watch it this morning) Having access to everything in one place is really key, so individuals are not wasting their time searching around for things across the CIMA web site. For example the number of times i've forgotten where the log in is to my PER application....

Thank you for arranging this space as I think it's really needed.

    Hi Rachael,

Sorry for the delayed repsonse, was on annual leave for the last week.

Your feedback really helps.  Having all of the information in one place is key for me to reduce students having to waste time trying to find things on the website.

I like your suggestion regarding PER examples across industries.

We do have a PER timeline on this group which i hope will give students more clarity regaridng the waiting time for a decision and this week we are focusing on providing membership assessor feedback on what they look for when reviewing sections of the PER application.

Of course if there is anything you need, leave a note and we will come back to you.

    Have a good week.

    Harry
