I am a firm believer that effective internal controls can be a catalyst for an organization's growth and/or success rather than an inhibitor of growth. I think we will particularly see this become important with generative AI adoption, with those organizations that develop adequate internal controls at the same time as adopting generative AI at an advantage over those that do not. COSO recently came out with a publication applying their traditional Internal Control - Integrated Framework to generative AI. It is certainly worth checking out if you haven't already! GenAI | COSO

Aloha everyone! Donny Shimamoto here from Hawaii. I'm from the first AICPA Leadership Academy class so not that young anymore, but always happy to help emerging leaders in whatever way I can. I run a non-traditional CPA firm that focuses on business transformation for small and mid-sized entities, including accounting firms, so have a mix of accounting, IT, and organizational development (HR) expertise. We don't do any traditional services (no audit, no tax, no outsourced finance) so would love to collaborate with anyone who has clients that have need for additional expertise in IT or organizational development that is aligned well with accounting and performance management.

Seeing quite a number of people running their own firms here, I am curious what the top challenges are for you. Part of what my firm has been doing for SOHO (Small Office and Home Office) entities is "right-sizing" some of the larger corporate practices (e.g. cybersecurity policy, AI policy, innovation committees, coaching/mentoring, etc.) to smaller entities. In cases where it made sense we also have helped facilitate group purchases for discounts too. Would love to know how else we can help accelerate the success of smaller firm owners since there are a lot of small business clients out there that need our help--especially with all the craziness with the economy, taxes, and impact of the politics that are going on right now.

@Lexi Weber this is very true....we really need an AICPA running thread haha. Not to steal @Logan Waller question but my favorite was running with 52,000+ people at the Chicago Marathon. One of my favorite cities and also with a ton of people who are just as crazy as me to pay to run 26.2 miles for the prize of a free beer and banana at the end.

@Steven Eilders HA! That's such a good point - all that hard work, training, and dedication for a free beer and a banana. 😂

Although I know it's about way more than the beer, banana, or the medal afterwards, it's definitely an accomplishment to celebrate! I have never been a runner. My friends scream "Run Forest, Run!" when I am running around the bases in our slow pitch softball league! If you or anyone makes it to Buffalo for the marathon, I will happily cheer you on from the sidelines and have a six pack waiting for you at the finish line!
