I've been reflecting on the Rise2040 Vision Report and the conversations it has sparked across the profession. While the report covered a wide range of topics, I suspect different messages resonated with different people depending on where they are in their careers and organizations.

Some may be rethinking how they approach AI and emerging technologies. Others may be focusing on talent development, leadership, new business models, or the evolving expectations of clients and stakeholders.

For me, one of the biggest takeaways has been the need to rethink how we develop emerging professionals. Historically, many accountants built their skills through repetition—performing foundational tasks, learning from mistakes, and gradually taking on more complex responsibilities. As AI automates more of those routine activities, we have an opportunity—and a challenge—to rethink how the next generation develops technical expertise, professional judgment, critical thinking, and client relationship skills. The traditional path to competency may look very different in the years ahead.

Since the Vision Report launched, what's one idea you've started to rethink or act on?

What stood out to you, and has it changed anything about how you approach your work, your team, or your organization's strategy? I'd love to hear examples and perspectives from others in the profession.

My biggest takeaway has been the "human in the lead" concept. It's really stuck with me and is something I've been trying to keep front and center every day.

As AI becomes a bigger part of our work, I think the mindset we need to have is that AI can help us work faster and smarter, but people still need to provide the judgment, ask the right questions, and make the decisions. I've been sharing that perspective with my teams often and brainstorming about how to apply it in our projects.

I love this, Grace! And I agree - the "human in the lead" concept is so important. With all the focus on artificial intelligence, it seems as if that "human touch" will become more and more of a differentiator for those that can successfully blend the human experience with technology.
