I often return to Amy Poehler's words: 'Good for her, not for me.' To me, it's a reminder that every woman (and person) deserves the freedom to choose their own path - and the respect to walk it without judgment. Yet the reality is that women are still not always in charge of their own destiny. There are moments when I am still 'the only' woman on a call or in the room. And if you cannot see it, you cannot be it. Representation matters. Until the day women are no longer 'the only,' we need moments of recognition like Women's History Month and International Women's Day, and we need communities dedicated to strengthening women's leadership. These initiatives don't just celebrate progress - they help build the skills, visibility, and support that pave the way for the women who will come next.
This year's theme is "Give to Gain." What are some ways this has shown up in your life and career?
My first thought is through my volunteer work on the AICPA's Women's Initiatives Executive Committee (WIEC). I am giving my time but gaining by learning from others during every meeting, attending the AICPA's Women's Global Leadership Summit, and more.
